In the Network mag this month there is a story of a collision somewhere in Europe where an impact call was recieved and two people rescued. Bearing in mind we have had the odd jobs of cars flying off the network and being a struggle to locate it can only be a good thing ??????

Any of you guys/girls heard or seen much or been alerted by them ?

Heard a whisper it was coming through on trials basis a while back ,
as a friend of mine works for a vehicle equipment + safety design team .
Last i heard his Co. was American owned and has now been bought/taken over by Japan,
run and worked from out of european (France Holland Germany Italy ) design and prototype engineers to point of manufacture.
The good thing is designing and developing the ideas to point of manufacture and selling product,
the hard bit then is getting the actual Car Make Manufacturers to buy + implement and install it .

Now whether the system will be introduced in high/top end spec marketing vehicles only to start ? your guess is as good as mine.
Seems a simple straght forward enough idea really , phone sims are ten a penny these days.
So long as the network providers can handle the extra , and you have a signal , Bob`s your relative and Fanny`s the same .

Just so long as the Network provider for the signal doesn`t cut you off for long term No-usage we`ll be alright

Funnily enough, when I was doing some stand in stuff for an old friend, I used this when stealing a BMW that I couldnt start. I pretended someone needed help and the woman started the car for me.

E-call is not rare, but we get few calls to the ambulance service as a result of it. Most systems have an operator who will attempt contact with the vehicle before calling us.

Big advantage is that they can identify exactly where they are!

Strangely enough ,
doesn`t the RAC advertise in that TV (television for the diverse amonst us ) advert of breaking down , show something very similar ?
The ad` with Vinny J lost and running through the back woods of some "Epping forest" location and the Recovery op` tracks them from the mobile phone signal ...
Can they not all use this facility ??
and do they need the phone owners permission to trace, before commencing the global grid location finder for the seriously lost ??
