Vauxhall Vectra me

came back on Saturday

no indicators, no fuel guage, speedo stuck at 22 mph, rev counter frozen at 700 rpm - fuel guage in the red but I know there's £20 of 4* in there

Must be the only car where the fuel in the tank's worth more than the vehicle itself though

I got home on Saturday

as I was coming down my road I noticed my speedo was stuck at 22 mph

my rev counter was stuck at 700 rpm

no radio display - no radio function

indicators not working, fuel guage, temp guage both at rest

have taken it around the block since and most of the dashboard seems dead, car works fine otherwise

He'll be running out of fuel on the motorway next, claiming he's still got 1/2 a tank

Sounds like the electrics to me?

Checked the fuses? Any of them blown?

a mate of mine came around yesterday

disconnected the battery

reconnected the battery

checked the fuses

checked the alternator

unfortunately, the dashboard remains DEAD!! and now I need to find my sodding radio code ON TOP

going nowhere fast

Sounds like a connector has wriggled loose somewhere on the wiring loom.

HAd this happen in my old Bimmer - Dashboard dead as a dodo, but everything else worked fine. Turned out I'd been a bit too enthusiastic with the jetwash and water had got in causing it to play up. Been driving through too many puddles or washing the car more than usual? Could just need time to dry out?

There's a few Vectra forums that might be able to shed some more light on things?

That's a bit drastic! I'd rather put wheels on a Fray Bentos tin, now there's an idea. Snazzy wheels and a meal rolled into one. It might just take off!

Fray bentos tin might actually be a bit more aerodynamic than a Lolvo. But I bet it doesn't have heated seats and a billion airbags

HI,

IT sounds like a earth fault, most of these systems will have their own positive feed but will share a common earth lead. therefore for all these to go off at the same time points towards an earth lead broken or loose.

Check all the leads on the negative terminal of your battery are clean and connected, if all ok then i think its wise to check the back of a haynes manual to get identify the earth wire coming from the rear of your dash board and get a circuit tester on it.

i am surprised that the speedo isnt working though, these are usually a mechanical connection i.e a metal cable running from the gearbox to the rear of the speedo so shouldnt be affected by an electrical fault.

i will try and look into it a bit more and get back to you.
