Any other 'PCSO issues' that do not fit in to the other forums. Recruitment of PCSOs, day to day PCSO duties, questions about law, joining the regular police, becoming a special, anything else remotely PCSO orientated!!

  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:54 am
Yes, if anything, it would be good to send out a message to help as a deterrent
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:53 am
Dna spray is a great move, we need to nail em in court
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:52 am
Well got to give the Met credit, they have formed a specillay trained UNIT by George! to T bone the villains :slch2:
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:52 am
They have rolled out training for dna sprays that can be used on riders now, which is interesting.
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:51 am
True, always frustrtaing to see criminals get away, but not much you can do but go with it.
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:48 am
Haha and so what is your take on the Met reversing their previous position on taking on moped thieves? good decision? it can't be right that moped theives get away with it ( viewtopic.php?p=199406#p199406 )
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:48 am
They were a very hot topic ten years ago but I don't think they're quite so bothered now.
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:47 am
Sure, the media love a story about PCSOs
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:46 am
I think I recall seeing that video. But yes, if someone has been given fair warning and they have an open bottle, then most likely would, but I guess it always comes down to the specific circumstances
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:43 am
Yeah I saw that , nightmare but returning to PCSO topics, would you seize a homeless man's cider? ( viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19022 )
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:42 am
Aye, and they reckon whoever it is could be up to 5 miles away
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:41 am
True, and the offender has chosen the hours of darkness to operate his drone, that is to his advantage
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:41 am
Will be interesting to see if they catch the culprit
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:40 am
I guess it's something they're not used to chasing
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:39 am
But 1 bloke is running rings round the whole of Gatwick, the Police helicopter chased 1 drone, lost it
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:39 am
Yes, the theory seems to be whoever it is really knows what they're doing and is likely educated to phd level
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:38 am
Yeh love that, good little sound FX too
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:38 am
    Ah, nice feature!
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:38 am
You've got 1 bloke who has launched the same drone a dozen times, Police have no clue!!
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:37 am
Unbuilt? oh you mean inbuilt, click on the pencil to edit :)
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:36 am
Apparently your standard drone has inbuilt software that stops it flying near an airport
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:36 am
Oh yes, I was reading about that last night, what a nightmare, seems they're really struggling to tackle that situation
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:35 am
Well its gatwick, what the heck is going on? :slwoot:
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:34 am
    How's it going?
  • falkorSat Dec 22, 2018 9:33 am
    Morning Lieutenant !!
  • Lieutenant fatmanSat Dec 22, 2018 9:33 am
    Morning all!
  • Lieutenant fatmanSun Dec 31, 2017 10:34 am
Well, there's a lot less money at the moment due to constant cuts so some hard decisions have to be made, only time will tell if the right ones are made. I do wonder if there are any right decisions though with the small amount of funding police services are getting. Will they be able to do the job effectively at this point, we shall see if it's possible.

this is National PCSOs commentary
Site Logo Ever since 2002 when PCSOs first hit the streets, the mantra of "eyes and ears" of the Police Force circulated widely. PCSOs were the eyes and ears, noting descriptions of suspects seen out and about, putting in reports of local rumours/ intel/ incidents and that basic premise has continued to this day. Many serious crimes have been detected solely due to one of these reports by a PCSO, which once upon a time was fulfilled of course by a traditional beat bobby.

Traditional beat bobbies are far and few between, if not entirely missing from the equation now, so PCSOs in many cases fill that gap. Which is what PCSOs were intended for way back in 2002 anyway!

And back then the entirely naive notion that PCSOs would never be involved in conflict or dealing with disorder, was entertained widely and proclaimed as if this was quite a reasonable proposition.

As the years have gone by the theoretical idea, that PCSOs dont deal with conflict and can pass on disorder cases to Response Units, has largely gone by the wayside and onto the back burner , especially as PCSOs have gained experience and received Safety Training.

PCSOs have always needed a fair degree of courage, wit and common sense and now more than ever, as the dizzy days of 16,000 PCSOs are long back in distant memory, leaving many PCSOs working alone and on their own initiative with uncertain back up.

Society badly needs PCSOs and good ones, could you be that PCSO?
