Re: Changes to PCSO powers
The power to issue an FPN for cycling on the pavement no longer comes from paragraph 1(2)(b) of Schedule 4 to the Police Reform Act 2002, it now comes from Section 72 of the Road Traffic Act 1835, same as a PCs power. Also, there is now no such thing as Standard Powers, all powers are at the discret...

Changes to PCSO powers
The first of December saw the commencement of section 38 of the Policing and Crime Act 2017, which relates to police staff powers. Part 1 and 2 of Schedule 4 of the Police Reform Act 2002 are now deleted and we can be designated with any power of a constable (with a few exceptions). Question is, has...

Re: End of Lincs PCSO's possibly?
D&C are looking to cut their PCSO numbers by 50% over the next 4 years, announced last week:

They will be offered other roles, rather than redundancy. Is this a trend other forces will be following?

Re: Policing & Crime Bill
Our pay and conditions are national, and not decided by individual forces. The most an individual force can do it alter shift patterns and work areas. So if you used to work until midnight, but now work until 2200 then there would be a saving as you would get 12.5% shift pay as opposed to 14%. The v...

Re: Policing & Crime Bill
The removal of shift allowance and Saturday/Sunday enhancements, being replaced with Premium Pay is a national thing applying to all police staff. Whatever rate of pay they come up with I can't see it working for everyone. For my shift pattern, the premium will need to be 65% of my basic hourly rate...

Re: Policing & Crime Bill
But only those powers your Chief Constable wants you to have. If they want you to, they will be able to take away those powers that are now standard.

Policing & Crime Bill
The Policing & Crime Bill got it's second reading the Commons this week. Implications for PCSOs are: The removal of Standard powers, making all powers designated at the discretion of the Chief Constable. The creation of Voluntary PCSOs who can be designated with the same powers as PCSOs The abil...

Re: MIB from the roadside? 0800 enq no for Police
Not sure why I would need to use this? As a PCSO we do not investigate crime, so if there is a suspicion of a driver being uninsured then a PC will be making enquiries not me.

I thought this was a pcso forum. Custody is not the concern of us mere pcso's!

Re: Just say no, kids.
Apologies Powedermonkey, your original post asked whether PCSOs could search for legal highs and whether we had the power to seize them if we came across them, hence my answer.

Re: Just say no, kids.
No you cannot search for a 'legal high' PCSO's only have powers to search under 18 for alcohol and under 16 for tobacco. If you find illegal drugs during a search for alcohol or tobacco, or come across unconcealed drugs then you can seize them and require the name and address of the person possessin...

Re: In case you come across this situation
moi1985, True, and the cards may need updating. The debate seems to have shifted slightly to "do you need to have your card in your possession to exercise your powers?" From what JimmyRiddle says, there's no legal requirement so I'm wondering if it depends on force policy, as I'm sure I w...

Re: In case you come across this situation
Take a look on POLKA, in the document library there is the up to date list of PCSO powers. It shows the powers created by the policing, crime and anti social behaviour act as all designated powers. My point about looking at your designation card was that this lists all your powers that your force ha...

Re: In case you come across this situation
None of the new powers are standard. I dunno, this act has got rid of old powers like the S30 dispersal and drinking in alcohol free zones and remade them into new powers e.g. s30 exists now with the power to direct someone to leave. How does this work with PCSOs who had that power before? Do they ...

Re: In case you come across this situation
The general power of seizure, as introduced by the Police, Crime and ASB Act 2014, is not a standard power, but one that has to be designated by your Chief Constable. So if you haven't been designated then you don't have any of the new powers. None of the new powers are standard.
