Times They Are A-Changing

Now the dust is beginning to settle after the General Election and after the recent terrorist attacks in London and Manchester, what does the future hold for PCSO's? We have a badly weakened Tory government under pressure to respond to those attacks and deal with the potential for future attacks. At...

Re: Nine out of 10 burglaries in London go unsolved

Wasn't it Cooper's ex-boss Blair who promised to be "tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime"? How did that work out? Not that the Tories have been any better. If you want to reduce any crime the way to do it is with severe sentences including custodial for the first offence, no wishy washy Com...

Privatisation of Policing?

On a recent job dealing with a shoplifter, the security guard told me that the head of his company's (international with around 200 stores in the UK) security, who is an ex-Met officer, is applying for the power to issue community resolutions. I've not been able to find anything on the internet but,...

Contact, no contact!

Sorry if this isn't in the right place on these forums but it does stem from a job I went to. I imagine that most of us have the new contactless payment cards from our banks. For those who may not, they work by a simple tap of the card onto the payment device. They save you the oh so onerous task of...

Re: End of Lincs PCSO's possibly?

West Yorkshire Police have just finished a recruitment drive, the second in a year, for PCSO's. The advert didn't say how many they wanted and, whilst it said force wide. we know that some councils across West Yorks have pulled their part of the funding for PCSO's. The last intake went to Leeds (and...

Irritated? Not so much that as bemused as to why people do it. I guess I'm too old to think of its cool or trendy.

Re: I Have Seen The Light

I asked because I overheard a traffic cop tell a driver that his blue font sidelights were illegal. I assumed the traffic cop was correct but I later wondered and checked. Hence the question.

So you can have blue bulbs at the front but not the rear.

I Have Seen The Light

Question : is it illegal to have blue light bulbs on a vehicle? I'm talking about headlights and sidelights as opposed to the ones that shine underneath a vehicle.

If so, can the driver be ticketed, what law is it and is it endorsable?

Re: 'Chuggers' employed to flag down shoppers

Might work well . . . . until the prospective employee sees the pay and conditions. Meanwhile WYP are recruiting more PCSOs. Don't know how many or where they'll be posted. We've got our fingers crossed we'll get some. Our division is supposed to be at full strength but at our particular station it ...

Re: Waiting for training. How long?

You really are being messed about, aren't you? Was any reason given as to why you weren't selected for the October training? "Operational needs" covers a multitude of sins!

Re: Waiting for training. How long?

lilly5, Sorry to hear of your problem. Sounds to me that the delay may be due to the force confirming funding is available. And, yes, you'd think that would have been sorted before the recruitment process started. Having said that, I don't know how your force is doing regarding cuts. At WYP we've lo...

Re: can I go picking wild flowers in the woods?

It cropped up (ha!) when a woman was reported for nicking the daffodils from a council owned park. The root (ha!) cause was she was giving them to her mother for mother's day. I seem to recall a charge of criminal damage was considered. Can't remember what, if anything, she was eventually done for. ...

Re: can I go picking wild flowers in the woods?

Provided it's for personal use & not for selling, and provided it's not a rare or endangered plant, no. Otherwise it's an offence under the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. Maybe Special Branch (ho ho) would be involved?

Re: cleveland intake in november

Duster, Welcome to the role and to the forums. On a side note : West Yorkshire Police are recruiting PCSO's but none will be coming to the division where I work, despite having lost 5 in the last 2 years (2 were recently dismissed, 2 became PC's & 1 left the force for another job). We're also down 2...
