Re: moped riders

I read last week that charges are still being considered against some of the police drivers involved. Freeman acknowledges that Police can use force to apprehend offenders but he argues they cannot cause injury, in such cases that would be an assault (for which the Police driver could be put on tria...

Re: Nine out of 10 burglaries in London go unsolved

A 10% detection rate is about the national average. It was as high as 14% a few years ago IIRC and the Met's rate as low as 6% around two years ago IIRC.

Re: Hopefully not our future

From this and other reports, programmes etc I've seen about policing in the USA it seems there is very much an attitude of "us v them". Maybe they could learn from British policing and NPT's? From what little I've seen of US policing, it seems a tangled skein of troubled race-relations, firearms an...

Re: Wet spaces

Google is your friend .. http://www.alcoholpolicy.net/street_drinking/ It seems the benefits are far from certain and it's an expensive scheme to set up and maintain. I must admit (Powdermonkey) my initial thought was that whichever businesses end up next door to a new "wet space" probably won't be ...

Re: Police stop-and-search 'waste of time'

Most stop & searches are unlawful that's why they're a waste of time and find nothing. Mine aren't unlawful. How often do you see a load of bobbies bundle out of a van, stop the local thief who at the time wasn't doing anything or even giving them any grounds to search? The stop form will then have...

Re: Offender Checks - Do they work?

These checks basically consist of a door knock..... "Hello Dave, are you going burgling today?"..... No? "oh right, toodles" The team then note what they are wearing etc and its tea, cakes and medals all'round. If there is no answer then the officers try, girlfriends addresses, grannies address and...

Re: A Caution??

I'm not after and opinion Arthur, I asked because I don't know the fact. They're both summary-only offences, up to a level 5 fine and/or a sentence not exceeding six months (much the same as s.39 Criminal Justice Act 1988 a.k.a. common assault) s.89 Police Act 1996 s.46 Police Reform Act 2002

Re: PCSO's in London

at National Events etc.... Like outside Lindo Wing, St Mary's Hospital (Where Kate is giving birth). or in or around 10 Downing Street, Buckingham Palace ??? It always seems to be SWORN Officers only .. the PCSO don't need to be utilised on the big events ???? Alternatively, perhaps the "big" place...

Surely the Met will have a Media/Public Relations office that can be contacted to arrange this sort of thing?

Re: PCSOs' sickness has TRIPLED!! Did YOU go sick ?

I can't stand seeing PCSO's waddling around with oversized trousers on ( fat trousers) whilst gobbling off telling other people the crack. Why is it the fat female PCSO's all seem to be little Hitlers/fussy bullies who lie and make stuff up?? They also all seem to have Mental Heath issues. The fat ...

Re: Police stop-and-search 'waste of time'

Mrs May said fewer than one in 10 searches led to an arrest. She said this was “far too low for comfort”. What was the ratio in previous years and decades? Perhaps the use of stop & search powers over time has stopped people carrying drugs/weapons/equipment etc. Is the ratio significantly different...

Re: Is Neighbourhood Policing a Luxury we Cannot Afford?

Cuts, cuts and more cuts to come. Ring-fencing gone. funding from Councils drying-up. Will Neighbourhood policing slowly be abandoned and the funds diverted to the response-style policing that grabs the headlines? I think we'll still try to do everything, even with reduced funding. I can see specia...

Re: game of thrones TV series

I enjoyed the first series enough that I bought several of the books on which it's based. What a disappointment they become as the series goes on :slex: - it turns from a fairly tight, well-paced storyline into a meandering bloat-fest, with more and more characters introduced, more and more threads ...

Re: PCSO's need more PPE !!

PCSOs working in city centres and areas with high crime/ASB should have more PPE. It could be arranged on a local level and there is no need for a wage difference or powers of arrest. Just a bit more training. I think such an arrangement would break down very quickly: what if you have to travel thr...
