Re: btp free travel??

Sorry to bump a rather old thread but it would be create if someone could let me know what the current latest finish and earliest start is for BTP PCSOs in London? PM is fine if you prefer. I'm looking to commute from Sittingbourne in Kent (if successful applying!), where the last train home from Vi...

Re: Goodbye and best of luck to all

Terribly sorry to hear that, but I'm sure you're not down and out. There's still other forces recruiting if you're willing to have a go, don't know your area but there's always BTP who are of course national and who (for now) aren't as directly affected by the government's spending cuts due to their...

It really was, just sorry I didn't thank you earlier - I was lost in deep thought and contemplation

When one door closes... (PCSO RECRUITMENT)

Hi all, with the bad news and negativity in the air I thought I'd post a quick note to let you know it's not all doom and gloom, with some forces actually recruiting rather than cutting PCSO numbers. For those at risk in the Met - Thames Valley have launched a PCSO recruitment campaign today which c...

Re: Recruitment is back on

Interesting post powdermonkey, the more I think about it the happier I am that I've decided to accept the offer of PCSO training next year - as long as I've got enough money to stay solvent and enjoy life, I'm happy to leave the desk job for something more fulfilling.

Addi564, what did you decide?

Re: Recruitment is back on

Find myself in the same tough spot. Significantly better pay in current (mundane) IT position, but the job satisfaction in an imminent PCSO position will be so much higher... I figure it's better to live without regrets and and give it a shot - I can tolerate a bit less take-home if I'm doing someth...

Re: Targets. Anybody else have them and what's the deal?

That's correct, I used to be in the Met (an East London SNT) a good few years ago - but left to try out another career path. However, after trying a few things I've decided that PCSO was the job I found most satisfying. As such I'm hoping to join BTP. So I can't compare the role in the two forces ju...

Re: Targets. Anybody else have them and what's the deal?

Thanks for that powdermonkey, I think I could live with the 80% visible patrol objective... Seems to fit with the role. I've heard of targets (well, "suggestions" to avoid that word) for stop+accounts in a certain London force, which I however feel would encourage people to be stopped without due re...

Re: Targets. Anybody else have them and what's the deal?

Hi, I know this is an old thread but seems to fit my question, I really don't think targets are healthy for the PCSO role.

Do BTP PCSOs have any performance targets? I'm joining soon and don't like the thought of that, it's the only possibility that could dampen my enthusiasm!

Re: OH MY GOD, You are a PCSO?!!?!

Occasionally when people find out I get a positive reaction like "wow that must be really exciting", "good on you". Sadly most of the time it's a combination of the ignorant "oh do you get paid for that??" or the equally mis-informed "is it true you can't arrest people?" and "ooh cool... so when are...

:slra: I love the media's ability to take small things mentioned by a few people, and tear them completely out of context...tarnishing all of us with the same brush and somehow spin it to make a slippery-slope argument to "prove" a political point. Completely discrediting the years of hard work, pro...

Re: PCSOs CAN NOT BE A PC IN THE MET FROM APRIL

This is unfortunate for a lot of people I know. If it's any consolation TCB I was a PC for short time and elected to go down the PCSO road afterwards. It's not that bad - better hours, freedom to roam, more exercise, still decent money, more annual leave, more industrial rights... I could go on. May...
