I'm off. So long and thanks for all the fish.

As of May, I will no longer be a PCSO. I'm leaving to join another government organisation. It's been a blast, learnt a lot but i'm glad i'm getting out whilst I can.
When your own bosses are encouraging you to find something else, you know the time is right. Good luck to the rest of you.

Re: Policing & Crime Bill

I think the role of PCSO is dying. If other forces are anything like mine, the erosion of numbers is just the start. Add on the impending reductions in pay, I think a PCSO who isn't actively looking for another job needs to be.

Re: Policing & Crime Bill

Yes to the removal of standard powers, but only the definition. It is being replaced with this: (6B) 20The powers and duties that may be conferred or imposed on a person designated under this section are— (a) any power or duty of a constable, other than a power or duty specified in Part 1 of Schedul...

Re: Brave New World

Big Brother, I agree with you in that I don't give a toss if there's no cover. Here's an example of how this system doesn't work. Last night I got passed a job for nuisance motorbikes 2 to 3 miles from where I was. The off road motorbike team were unavailable - grounded for the winter! I queried my...

Re: Brave New World

We used to do 6 on 4 off. We really miss it, 4 days off in a row was worth the extra hours. As for cover/lack of. Couldn't give a sugar, the job treat us with that much disdain the only reason new patterns are implemented is to try and get better coverage. They "consult" but all it means in the end ...

Re: PCSOs accused of breaking and entering.....

This takes me back. I had an inspector who basically was an arrogant arse and thought he could whatever he liked. He advised us to do this exact same thing while out and about. It was probably around this point where we began to fall out. For a start you have no idea who's house you are walking int...

Re: The End Is Nigh

If I were in your position I'd be sat in the nick looking for jobs. I certainly not going out, and I certainly wouldn't be trying to pander to, or even give a sugar about the public. The job are treating us like dirt. They say on one hand how we are essential, and on the other it's made clear just h...

I wouldn't even worry about it, with all the other stuff going on this is so far down the list of priorities it's beneath my feet.

Re: Dash Cams

I've got a Monkon GW1-C dash cam, capacitor version (needs to be plugged in all the time) with a 32Gb card. Plugs into the cig lighter, and because I have a newish fiesta it was fairly easy to remove the plastic trim around the window and hide the wires. Camera sits behind my wing mirror and records...

It's a fu***ng stupid idea. When we're struggling to recruit and retain specials what makes the stupid bint thing people would want to be unpaid PCSOs?

Re: Hundreds of PCSOs to lose their jobs in West Mids

I tell anyone who will listen the truth as to why we can't get to jobs anymore. I'm not covering for the government, fuck them. If we don't get to a job, it's because we don't have any staff. The sooner people realise, the better.

I have upgraded from 7 to 10. 10 is brilliant. Noticeably faster, takes up loads less space on my drive. Not had a single issue/crash in a month. 100% recommend.

Re: Hundreds of PCSOs to lose their jobs in West Mids

I can't say much, not without wanting to reveal what force I'm in. But the soft jobs will go, we've lost quarter of our PCSOs and those that are left have been redeployed to busier areas. Don't rely on your redundancy package being good, for 12 years service mine would have been £6000.......
