Re: PCSO MISUSE AND DEGRADING ATTITUDES BY PC'S AND OTHERS

Basically different forces (even thought policy states the same thing) use and deploy their PCSOs very different. at the end of the day if it goes well your team will sing your praises to high heaven! If it goes "pete tong" they will blame you for over stepping your remit etc etc Your damned if you...

Re: Warranted PCSO's with Power of Arrest..The Future ?

Here is the Federation response...... ......“We have continued concern however around the powers creep of the CSO and remain strongly opposed to non sworn officers having the powers of arrest in any circumstance, not just the proposed ‘powers of arrest in exceptional circumstance’. Ad hoc, additiona...

Warranted PCSO's with Power of Arrest..The Future ?

The House of Commons Home Affairs Committee today issued their report entitled "Policing in the 21st Century". Included in this is a suggestion / recommendation for warranted PCSO's with the power to arrest in exceptional circumstances. Welcome development or thin end of the wedge ? A move in the ri...

Casey report calls for PCSO detention power !

In a report into how communities percieve the criminal justice system / neighbourhood policing / PCSO's / just about anything else that Louise Casey felt was necessary to mention (gave her something to do after they pulled the "Respect" agenda) she calls for PCSO's to be given far more support from ...

Don't get too hung up on the bleep...it really isn't difficult.

Practice more on the push and pull with weights, the test for upper body strength...it's surprising how this catches people out more than the bleep.

If you're only slightly more effective than a council worker then perhaps it's worth looking at how your neighbourhood policing team work together and how being a PCSO amongst that team impacts on the community as a whole.

No such poblems or perception where I work.

Blimey, you lot are a bit morose !! The PCSO's made a calm judgement..something they are expected to do. Their force back them completely. The Home Office and government back them completely. So the Federation and Daily Mail have another chance to give us a bit of a bashing. So what !! If it had bee...

16 is too young. You cannot be "taught" how to deal with people, it comes with a bit of life experience. I work with quite a few 18 - 21 year old PCSO's and quite frankly most of them have neither the self motivation nor life skills to get out there and work with their community. Usually asking thei...

Can you search with a PC ??

If this has been done before just point me in the right direction? Told today that we CAN search in the company of a PC whenever required, ie their power to search is conferred on us as we are in their company. Not too sure this is true as other than searching for alcohol, on detention, terrorism (i...

Transfering between Forces

Sorry but maybe this has been covered before.... I have been a PCSO for a couple of years and my wife's family all come from Hampshire. We are thinking of moving back and I was wondering if there is any way of transferring forces or whether I have to go through the whole application process again. I...

On your own but in sight of partner...is it practical ??

Changes in the Met suggest each ward will have Safer Neighbourhoods implemented within 12 months with officers patrolling on their own but in sight of each other.... but can this be done in practice ?? I work in a Safer Neighbourhoods estate with a lot of small roads and it would be almost impossibl...

Yeah...know all that but...

What is the reality in each force. The regulars should wear their headgear at all times but don't and the force I work with pretty much turn a blind eye.

I was wondering if there are any forces that in reality adopt the same stance when it comes to PCSO's ??

Caps and Hats...to wear or not ????

Apologies if covered before but do you wear your hat or cap all the time whilst on duty. We are supposed to wear it at ALL times (even when it's really hot) but regular officers never seem to do so unless on foot in the town centre. Everywhere else the regulars just don't even take it out with them ...
