Re: Section 59 notice

A PCSO only has the power to search non-dwelling buildings accompanied by, and under the direction of, a constable. It's the only part of the sec 59 powers that doesn't transfer directly to a PCSO. The legislation says the power applies if the vehicle has been used "on any occasion" to meet the crit...

Re: New Home SEC

I think there is only a slim chance of them getting rid of us, at least not for a while. But if they do they'd have to employ those who can and want to as PC. I don't think they'd want to add to the dole queues, or reduce police (family) numbers.

Re: Mental Health Act - places of safety

Not quite. I've had a mentally ill woman assault my colleague when we got sent to deal with her for running in front of traffic (amongst other things). She got nicked for assault though, not 136, but would probably have been 136 if she hadn't assaulted my colleague. I've also dealt with a woman who ...

Re: Why this job angers me..

I was aware that we don't have s19 powers (even though civilian investigators in my force do). But nearly all CCTV collections go through PCSO's in my force. Not just as a "quick job for a favour" either. They are officially tasked to us via NICHE from the crime desk. In fact CCTV collections and Ho...

Re: North Wales PCSOs

But anyway, there's nothing to stop you getting yourself a long LED D4 Maglite - long enough to be used as a baton. And no, it's not an off-weap. before anyone says - what laws are there against large torches? Whoa! It is an offensive weapon if you're carrying it with the intent to cause injury. An...

Is it just me or did anyone else read the title and think Charles would have the new nick name "scar face". :slsm:

Re: has anyone see this

Come on, it's satire. And it is funny. :slhi: We don't deal with wheelie bins in my force anyway, constables do. Seriously, if a wheelie bin goes missing the IP needs a crime number to get a new one off the council. Which of course means, thanks to initiatives like the policing pledge, once it's cri...

Re: Torches?

looking into the specifications of torches at the mo - one thing I'm considering is which type of battery. Does the station replace batteries for you or do you purchase them yourself? If it supplies, do the only supply certain types? ie AA, lithium? I suppose it depends on each force. In my force t...

Re: PCSOs - a female role?

Good summising JEA.
My summising wasn't supposed to be in support of this Jimmy.

I had hoped that, considering the job we do, stereotyping would be seen as a bad thing and I wouldn't need to explain it further. :(

Re: PCSOs - a female role?

I can see how the 'ethos' and skills required of PCSO's fits with stereotypical female qualities. An ego in this job just gets you in trouble, you need to be a good communicator, empathy, avoid conflict etc etc...

But that is stereotyping, of both the PCSO role and women.

Re: Have you been assaulted on duty?

I've had quite a few minor common assault incidents against me. Usually people trying to stop me confiscating alcohol where they try to nudge me away, knock my hand away etc. Not worth the hassle or not enough evidence to take it further, but I still record it on a "near miss" form. I've had 2 fairl...

Spent the whole damn shift dismantling a cannabis factory. :slthd:

(which, despite obvious links to organised crime, is not going to CID/Drugs Squad, but is being investigated by beat officers!!! :slrnt: )

Re: Hi Vis... or not to Hi Vis... this is my question!

Hello all! I'm a tad confused with when we are supposed to wear Hi Vis jackets. Going on the Avon & Somerset website... the PCSO's in the videos and blog sort of things aren’t wearing any. On the other hand... i see a lot of other forces also doing the same... but then i was reading a site today, w...
