Re: Is Neighbourhood Policing a Luxury we Cannot Afford?

... Some chatter yesterday between some senior old hands with neighborhood blood in their veins about neighborhood policing falling by the wayside at the next round of cuts. One school of thought seems to be the dissolution of the specialist units with there simply being a primary investigatory resp...

Re: Stop and Account

Always polite and friendly and take it from there.... If you go in at top level with attitude, it leaves you nowhere to go, if you in aggressive and or accusatory you cant be surprised when you get the same back. One thing i do is I always make sure i explain at some point during the conversation wh...

When they say 90% they mean on your patch, doing the followups, coffee mornings, dealing with ASB etc.

Re: Is Neighbourhood Policing a Luxury we Cannot Afford?

It comes down to money and there is none, they'll try and recruit for PC's internally for a while then it's tough on those who choose not to. Who in there right minds at the top would use money on PCSO's when they can have PC's? The writing is on the wall I'm afraid. Already in the borough in which...

Re: What really annoys you about the job

Re: PCSO Progression

I think that creating a PCSO supervisor would just be creating a role for the sake of giving PCSOs progression... The only place we have PCSOs in supervisory positions is in traffic and on the face, given recent rumours I am not too sure how well that works! What would be the point? We already have ...

Re: PCSO's need more PPE !!

More PPE??? Not for me ta.... The only time when I would have like to have some of the above ppe is when doing talks to kiddies and they want to see cuffs, battons etc. I was discussing this with a colleague on shift yesterday and in our collective 10yrs neither of us can think of a time when a situ...

Re: PCSO's Stopping a Moving Vehicle ??

Interestingly our Sgt this week asked us (PCSOs) to "use the number one stop signal" to control the traffic on a main road around a fairground. errrm Sarrge...... Recently found out that PCSOs are now not allowed #DL checks, however there is a #DN for TPCSOs (and depending on who you ask PCSOs). Not...

Re: PCSO's on car/van patrol?

Several in my subdivision are standard driver (i.e. can drive cars and vans on none response or prisioner transport duties) trained by virtue of their previous roles as TPCSOs, PCSOs on other divisions, CDO etc. However the subdivision has taken the view that PCSOs are not to drive at all. Vehicles ...

Re: housing estate, toughest beat for PCSOs?

Hi Falkor, Thanks for the link, I was working when it was shown on TV. This could have been filmed on my patch! Identical problems caused by identical families (for want of a better word). It can be a frustrating place to work at times, but rewarding too, when we get a breakthrough. All the ASB in ...

I dont do littering, we are discouraged from dealing with it....

Isnt there something about "depositing and leaving" we was taught on initial training that if it is picked up then job done, no offence.

Re: Police & Crime Commissioner to Dismiss PCSO's

I cant help but wonder how much impact these commissioners will have...

They are going to come in with big ideas, just like politicians, and find they cant be achieved, CC and ACCs i believe will simply play them lip-service and crack on.

but it's all about getting there within 12 minutes. Why? Does your force still have set response times? Yes, I grades are 12 minutes (I think they were changed to 15 minutes recently, but they still seem to work to the 12), S grades are 1 hour, they are still stuck to ridgedly, and always seem the ...

We are non-confrontational so we don't need it! This is not my view, but that of the union that I pay to represent my views!! So they tell me..... lol Vote with your feet, like me and be £12 a month better off! I was in the union 3 months, in the three months 2 of my colleagues needed union help......
