Re: Major changes to ASB legislation go live today

We have been told we cannot use any new powers or legislation. Apparently unison have issues. No further explanation. Any unionites explain what unisons problem is? This is potentially damaging as the public will perceive we are not wanting to move forward and help them. I just hope unison sent goi...

Re: Raised.threat level in UK

I think this thread has devolved into 2 arguments. The initial argument is that PCSOs should be issued with PPE to protect against terrorist attacks like that seen in Canada, and the murder of Drummer Rigby. This has, quite rightly been pointed out to be utterly pointless. Unless all officers, PCSOs...

http://www.acpo.police.uk/documents/LPpartnerships/2007/200709LPPGonPCSO.pdf Go straight to page 13, designation of traffic warden powers to PCSOs. Technically, any PCSO with traffic warden powers must be appointed/have their job changed to traffic warden, and then redesignated with PCSO powers. AC...

Re: custody suite !! have you been there?

I've been in custody a few times, our custody don't care. As far as they and the control room are concerned we are an extra body if it kicks off. Better to have 2 uniformed staff than 1 on their own.

Re: Raised.threat level in UK

We've been asking for more PPE, but for the reason that we are increasingly being sent to jobs involving conflict. A metal stick isn't going to help me against Johnny Al-Qaeda and his cronies.

Re: First Day Merseyside

Can't do the seatbelt OSCO and non ebdorsables are limited to obstruction and cycling on pavement. I know Andy and Ian but you need to check the standard powers for pcso's , which you can find on the Home Office website and then check Merseyside's force policy to see which ACTUAL powers we have. So...

Re: doing a witness statement from a victim

I have taken some statements for some very basic offences, but generally we aren't supposed to. I only do them because of the role I'm in.

Re: Common law v Statute Law

I was asked once. My response, "common law is the basis for almost all of our modern law and has been formed over the centuries by decisions made by the judiciary. Statute laws are laws enacted by parliament that are given power because the majority of the population have consented to be governed, a...

Re: business car insurance to drive to work?

We were told that once you have arrived at a place of work (could be usual place, could be training base, it doesn't matter) that the only time you can use your car is for personal reasons (ie goto the shops at dinner) or when you go home. Using it to travel to another station, for instance you arri...

Re: shocking moment a PCSO appears to exceed his powers

It seems PCSOs in Bristol only have a power to verbally detain someone. Without knowing the full lead up to the incident, unless the PCSO's claim of self defence was true then he hasn't acted appropriately. As the youth was NFA'd I'm assuming the claim of self defence wouldn't apply...

Re: can PCSOs assist if called to a stray HORSE?

Hate going to these jobs. We don't have the equipment or resources to deal with them effectively apart from trying to corral them into fields, which is all I do. It doesn't matter who's field it is, if you're going to spend the money on keeping horses then you damn well lock them in properly, or the...
