The PCS have set up a sub committee to try to deal with specific PCSO issues, At least they are trying to look after PCSOs and not just the clerical staff

For information, SROss currently earn approx £4000 per year more than PCSOs. (did I hear someone say policing on the cheap?) The plan at Richmond was to have 1 custody suit on the border with our neighbouring borough Kingston and BOTH boroughs would share which would mean transporting a prisoner cau...

We do not yet do crime reports and I believe that they will come in to save the PCs time, but it is taking us off the street which I feel is what we were introduced to do. It seems that across the country the powers widely vary, the uniform changes, the reporting changes and the functionality of the...

But in 30 years you will retire with a large pension, you have vast opportunities to diversify into exciting roles in the meanwhile and you will, when you complete your probationary period earn vastly more than a PCSO, so the pain is short and the pleasure is long. Plus you could be commisioner one ...

I am in my fourth year as a PCSO, I have always patrolled the same patch and I know it well and the people know me. When I first started I knewe nothing about foot partrols but over the years I have slowly gained knowledge and have manged to glean experience from some of the older officers that patr...

Whilst I accept that it is not necessary to agree with my point of view I find the venom expressed at the possibility of PCSO advancement surprising. Why would anyone who wanted to advance have to be Power mad egomaniacs in it for the money looking after their bank accounts unnecessary a wedge betwe...

I will try again All of the above are already done by a PS, adding another person to the mix is just going to complicate a situation which is nice and clear. Maybe in an ideal world, and I am glad that this is the case in your station, but I find (and I repeat) in many stations on many boroughs the ...

You are missing the point. I have no idea what is planned but I cannot see the role interrupting the current SNT structure. My guess - and this is a guess - is that it would be a role that would be more central, perhaps one per nick. The PCSO sarge/supervisor would have influence ONLY over other PCS...

I stated that few jobs are without career structures and the reply received was Eg. labourers, shop clerks, admin clerks - reach the top of the scale and that's it. Labourers become foremen Shop clerks become shop managers Admn clerks become supervisors not all but the opportunity is there alihowe Y...

Why would PCSO-Sergeants not leave their posts just as police Sergeants do, be it to take a different role, to earn more money or whatever Because they are not police they are PCSOs and the role would be very different from that of police officers who seem to use the SNT posting as a stepping stone...

The police have varied roles and with the last point this allows for PCSOs to have varied roles too. Why a rank structure, well how many jobs have no progression without leaving? We need to vary the prospects for the future and to explore opportunities and options. All the negatives so far seem more...

Raven wrote: it seems that many SNT sergeants come and go The supervisor would be a .. constant. That's ^ clearly contradictory. Excuse me? Where is the contradiction in that statement? If SNT skippers come and go and a PCSO skipper is there all the time he is a constant and a reference point for a...

What excellent replies and diverse opinions, my feeling is that generally you are so far against it. So let me expand on the possibilities What if................. A supervisory role is created, on that gives the first step in career progression. However it is a supervisory role that is outside of t...

PCSO Sergeants by February 2008

There has been much debate over a rank structure for PCSOs and arguments range back and forth as to whether it is a good thing or not. I have heard many rumours, as will anyone that has been in the job for a while, yet recently I have heard from different sources that consideration is being given fo...

Day after day police pass by prolific criminals but because we lack the free time due to outstanding calls we have to let them be to commit crime. Only a few years ago we would be turning them over and arresting them when our numbers were higher. Criminals are having more and more freedom to do wha...
