Metvest Bloody Heavy

Post by typecastboy » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:35 pm

Picked up my Metvest today from the nick. My god is it heavy and uncomfortable. Looks cool on though, feel a bit like Arnie! I've been wearing it round the house to get it to mould to my fine figure!

How hot is that gonna be in the summer!

My has started to mould even after a couple of hours wearing. I was sitting watching TV in it last night, but it was so uncomfortable, I took it off.

If you want to know about how light your metvest actually is, just ask someone who has MetVest version 1 and see how heavy that is!

From what I gather the MPS brand everything, I belive one of their systems is called Metcall? lol.

In terms of body armour, I start soon and I am getting issued a new style lightweight vest, should be much better than the older type in summer :)

I think you guys are forgetting the point. Whatever they call it and however much it weighs, it will bloody save your life!! I would wear it even if it felt like an elephant was on my back. I really just dont see the point in complaining about something that saves lives. I know your discussion is fairly light hearted but just remember that big, heavy thing that makes you sweat, is there to make sure you get back home to your families.

Did any of you guys hear about the Police Officer in Leeds City Centre? He was stabbed twice but the vest prevented him sustaining injury.

I believe it's the manufacturer that call it a Met Vest. I don't know if we all wear the same thing do we?

Body Armour sounds a bit Arnie doesn't it?

There are plenty of suppliers of PPE, it's not all the same. Body Armour is exactly what it is, doesn't sound too Arnie if you ask me :)

The one I wore as a PCSO was damn heavy too, so much so in fact it ended up giving me serious backache.

As already mentioned though, you will sweat heavily in the summer months (if we have a summer!) to the point where you could literally wring the sweat out of your shirt!

Wearing that body armour is one of the many things I honestly don't miss since I left the job.
Started at SYP as a PCSO in January 2004

Resigned in September 2006

Now working as a class 1 HGV driver.

So Multidropper, what made you quit, apart from sweating your J Arthurs off of course?
