What is the training like? No job if failed?

Post by GokuSS4 » Mon Apr 07, 2008 3:41 pm

Hi all,

Wanted to know the training to be a P.C.S.O. does it entail the same or similar training as a full Met officer? As in do you have to do tests and do exams? How hard are they if you do?

If you have to do that and do not pass at the end of training (if failure is possible at the end) does that mean you basically walk out with no job?

If that is the case is there any possible way of telling your current employer you need 6 weeks off? I guess they might agree based on no pay because you will be getting paid on your training?

Thanks.

Some training is similar but most is tailored to the specific function of a PCSO

You have 5 formal assessments: 3 multiple choice exams of 15, 25 & 40 questions; Officer Safety Training and; Emergency life support. They aren't simple things to pass - enough people fail.

If you fail an exam you are generally "back coursed" which means you go back to the start with the class that is following yours, I suppose if you start getting 0% then they may just sack you. They do say that they are in their rights to do that.

NO!!! You may not work for someone else & the MPS - unless you are working part time and have prior approval.

The course is a foundation course, the content is easy - the exams are however no longer easy!!
