I had a pair of GSG9's issued when I was in the army. They are very comfortable, light as a feather and look sooo cool. But they are not very warm, water resistant and dont offer much support. Hand on heart I could'nt recomend them as a wear all day patrol boot. There are a vast range of cheaper better boots on offer. If your set on a pair try e-bay first as you are right. They aint cheap.

Look at what you need the boots to do, i.e weather, terrain, time of day and do I need boots at all. Will shoes be better? then look at what features you would like, speed lacing, zips, nike style air bubbles etc. Then consider the price you are willing to pay. Try on as many boots as you can and make sure you wear the socks you are going to be working in. keep them on for 10 mins minimum. Walk, run and jump in them. Dont worry about how you look coz you need to be sure they are the right boots for you. The Hi-Tec Magnum range has all sorts of boots and JJB sports are doing some good offers. Danner boots are great but pricey, as are Matterhorns, 5.11's . Bates do a boot called falcon, which is a bit like the GSG9 but half the price. Confused? You will know when the boots are right. Good luck
