YOUNGSTERS got their hands dirty as part of a South Yorkshire Police initiative designed to show children how officers deal with everyday events.

The Junior PCSO scheme has been running in Wheatley since September and there are four themes to the project - crime and consequences, environment, safety and community engagement.

A dozen children picked up sponges and set about cleaning litter and graffiti at Wheatley Park Youth Centre, assessing the consequences of antisocial behaviour on communities.

They have asked us to do something like this, but simply there isn't enough time in the day with all the other things we do.
