would we benefit from a police only forum?

If we have only one thread open to police staff only then i cannot see a problem with that at all, so long as MoP can have access to the rest of the site.

Just a little puzzled as to what sort of sensitive police information people wish to discuss here though.
Surely if it's that sensitive then i have to ask the question as to whether it's wise to post it on a web site which anyone can have access to.
Surely this sort of info is best kept in a nick for security reasons more than anything. :?

I agree.
Keep the elite legion bar for long time members, anything sensitive can be discussed via PM's.

Kentish we may want to discuss a certain case that we're having a problem with, or have to go to court or something like that. If we don't name anyone we'll be okay but it's a bit of added security I think

hmm.. I really can't imagine what sensitive information we would be discussing. Wouldn't be against going ahead with the new forum, and would be very interested to see what sort of things go up there, but frankly, I'd be too worried about Data Protection to mention names, dates, places, operations etc.

But these are PUBLIC forums and the Bert Moffats of the world sometimes appear on here. It would be nice knowing you are definatley talking to PCSO's or Police and not some untorward party :!:

You'll quickly find Clai that there are a few people around who dislike PCSO's for whatever reason.
Rather than voicing their opinions to the PCSO's whom they know at their local station (because frankly they'd probably be disciplined for some of things they have said) they come on here, and using the anonyminity of the internet launch into a one person hate crusade, knowing they'll (probably) never be tracked down.

They come under the guises of "Troll" or "Keyboard Kommando".

How would you be able to confirm whether someone really is 'job?'

Most of us can't use job computers on the internet.

No doubt the moderator would ask you to send him/her an email from your work computer with an email address ending in police.pnn.uk.

As a regular reader, but only an occasional poster, (and a civi) I would miss a lot of the anecdotal stories which would inevitably move onto the "police only forum" where matters could be discussed in more detail. I think the site and its attraction for many would diminish as a result. Having said that, I voted for not caring either way, as I am sure I will be able to survive if such a forum is introduced.
due to financial concerns, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off and will not be switched on again until further notice.

Mr D, hopefully you won't go and won't lose interest. The 'Police only forum' would only be for us to discuss things that we have to be careful that people outside of the police family don't read. We may have a legal problem etc and their are experience Police Officers who run these forums on hand to help us.

Please continue to enjoy the forums, we need the outside looking in if you know what I mean :?:

Enjoy :D
