Hi,

I passed the paper sift for northampton on 27th May! Got the presentation and interview on the 28th August and fitness on the 10th september. My brother in law is a PC but for his application into thames valley he had to do a role play I wonder why northampton is different.
Any advice to give for the presentation, interview or fitness. I think im more or less prepared for it but any tips would be great!! :slhi: :slhi:

thanks!!

First up good luck :D
My advice would be to make sure you have some really good examples of your life experiences of the listed competencies, also try to make sure they are varied! Is your presentation on the housing estate shopping area? If so speak to your local serving PCSO and get up-to-date information on policies and procedures. Doing this will also give you a feel for the job in general :D Also keep it to around 7-8mins, that way you are not in danger of going over the 10mins (cos they will stop you even if you are halfway through once 10mins have passed) but it's not too short either :D On the day, get there a bit early (beware of traffic it can get very busy) and suss the place out, that way you will have plenty of time to relax, use the facilities and go over your notes one last time :D You will be fine! :D

Have you been practising the bleep test ready for your fitness test?

Which part of Northants are you from?

My local PCSO is based in Desborough, I met up with her prior to my interview and presentation and then went on part of a Friday night shift with her as an observer...it was fantastic :D

Manchoi and Hanika- Are all your PCSOs up there female? Interesting...

The whole process is long. Very, very long- and most people should be prepared to give it year from initial application to actually being let loose on the streets.

Having met your local PCSOs will give you more than enough of an edge in the process- and the best advice is to read through all the stuff they send you. It's amazing how so many candidates don't, and wonder why their fail.

The fitness test is child's play. The bleep test is only up to 5.4! Everyone can pass that- even if you're well below average on the fitness scale...
I may not agree with what you have to say- but I'll defend to the death (well, almost) your right to say it.

May the Reasonable Force be with you !

I applied in Feb and am on ths list for the Feb 2010 intake, so a year long application is very true! :D
I have my final medical in Oct and it's just a case of waiting it out until Feb and contacting HR to make sure everything is still on track :D

I don't what sort of things you have been doing with your life, but good examples of voluntary work of all sorts, activity in the community etc. will go a long way to build you a good character profile. Don't let your age bother you, all you can do is present and describe yourself in the best possible way, don't be shy but don't be loud and over confident either :D

Also if you can practise the actual bleep test itself that would help you...it's a lot easier than I thought it was going to be, but practising it and getting to know the rythm and the timing and number of the bleeps in each level will help you on the day. I found when I could count down the runs in a level I was a lot more confident about running it also because I had practised it with some friends I was used to and comfortable with it on the day :D

Email me: manchoi2000@hotmail.co.uk I will send you the mp3 if I can find it! :D :D
