Specialist Roles for PCSO's

Post by alihowe » Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:21 pm

HI Gang,

Just to let you know that I have just started a new role at Stansted Airport as a PCSO on the Aviation Security Team. Very interesting, and working with a fantastic team. YES..... it's happening....... THE MARINE UNIT, AVIATION SECURITY and other specialist roles at last for PCSO's within Essex Police. I'm in my 7th year with Essex Police and really needed a new challenge, something different and I'm chuffed to bit to have been selected for this role :slhi: I felt in a rut and I started to feel de-motivated before I went for this new role.

Any other PCSO's out there had this opportunity :slwot: What sort of roles are on offer to you as a PCSO? What would you ideally like to do, if you don't want to become a Police Officer?

I think it's really good news, that we have been discovered for having other skills and attributes we can bring to specialist departments and we too can play are part in these.

I've been working as a Schools Liaison Officer for the past 18 months and I'm really enjoying it. It's the change I needed as I'd begun to get bored with the same routine. I'm a lot busier now, but in a good way. I do a lot more investigative work, get loads of intel and also do PSHE lessons on aspects of law. Kids seem to like having me about (they were suspicious of me at first) as do the teachers and staff as I take on a lot of work.

It's fantastic. There's the NPT and the Aviation Security Team. Very interesting job and a great bunch of people. Very differnt from working on Division, and I really needed that change. My advice to you would be........... GO FOR IT :slsp:

Well with a bit of luck we might get a visit to Heathrow or LGW in the near future. If we do I'll let you know :D My role is not in the Terminal but around the local area doing community engagment, but not the 'usual' community engagement that I'm used to, so makes a nice change. We cover a wide radius of the airport.
