Policing White Paper

Post by miller » Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:30 pm

The government have just released the white paper on the future of policing, sorry no link for those who have not read it yet,

It states PCSO's will lose 2 powers, and gain 2

LOSE: 1. power to escort adnormal loads
2. power to deal with park offences ( not sure what these are as i dont have them)

GAIN: 1. power to seize fireworks
2. power to seize articles to commit graffiti

Its always good to get pro-active powers, however, another oppurtunity lost, same as the power to seize class C drugs, if its hidden on their person we cant search for it, so when the offender see's us coming he/she stops expressing their feeling through graphic art, sticks the'article' in their pocket, next to the firework/bag cananbis (but then cananbis is no longer class c :slwot: ).......

good powers, but all but toothless in my opinion

Since the introduction of HATOS the chances of a PCSO escorting an abnormal load are slim. We have however been given the power to direct traffic which in some respects compensates. As for park offences, they only apply to the London parks. I believe (although correct me if I'm wrong MET posse) that the parks offences are by-laws anyway, and PCSOs can still be designated the power to enforce by-laws.

As for the gains, these are things we'd do anyway. If you saw someone grafitting a wall, chances are you're going to be detaining them for damage. I'd be routinely seizing an item like that, which is either evidence, or a potential weapon to be used against you.

Labour invented them so wont want to look like they made a mistake and the most powerful Tory, Johnson, has increased the numbers of them in London when he got In to the Mayors office.

in an email from tory head office...in answer to 'is my job safe under the conservatives?' they said ' it will be up to Chief Cons to decide how they spend their funds...'
you can read that how you like.
I might not always be right, but I'm never wrong.

There is your answer then... budget cuts for Police Forces means no spending on PCSO's... Face facts our jobs are under threat if the Tories get in.

Give it up for Mr Depression! We are not going anywhere under any government. The local police authority say how the budget is spent the chief goes to them, community policing is important!

Nobody has, they're not law yet. The only power you've got to seize fireworks or spray cans is under the prevention of stupidity act of 2001.

Most powerful tory ? More powerful than cameron? hardly. Boris is hardly taken seriously in most circles.

He's the only one who's currently got any real influence or power to control anything. Taken seriously or not, Boris is in charge in London.
