the pass rate changes in force regularly...if there is a high standard of applicants then the pass rate is high so the better applicants get through. on the next recruitment drive the pass rate may be lower to allow the same amount of applicants to get through as last time. it has happened in my force on several occasions.

14/18 pcso's on our stt have applied so tbh its going to be every man for himself because im sure there will be alot of pcsos who arent very good getting through mainly because they can blag day 1

Im not holding my breath i applied on my 1 st year waited 5 months and got terminated now going on 3 years in november

Wouldnt be surprised if they push pass rate up to 70% - im just annoyed its open to specials because that means no chance for us BUT on a plus note if they want rid of us this will be the perfect time i dont think they will started losing specials because they are hard to recruit

How many Met PCSOs are there? Someone said about 3,500, going by my STT team, other SNT's that I've spoken to, and people on here, I reckon out of 3,500, about 3,300 will be applying. There are only 1,000 spaces, many of which will be filled by Specials, so there are going to be a lot of disappointed plastic people out there!!!

I dont see why it cannot just be pcso to pc why specials??

I doesnt benefit them in anyway because they lose a special and all the training cost and its will them cost them their salary - you could argue that specials are more experienced but i think not most are babysat all shift and seem to want the shift over once started.

Whereas a pcso cost them more to employ than a pc for first 2 years or so only cost is training

If i dont get in this time i will probably just branch out to something else

Also would like to point out weve only i believe 5 specials who are signed off for independant patrol on our borough so if that is similar in the met looking at maybe 500 specials qualified to apply and not all want to be a pc

So in the met there are about 600 STT pcsos

Then per bocu 30 pcsos for snt so maybe 1000 snt pcsos

Wheres the rest ??? The last count was 3500 met pcsos so might have dropped to 2500

Remember 500 pcsos just went to pc

Last time i looked 800 pcsos had applied and got canned, so might not be that bad maybe 2000 people for 1000 spaces

Wikipedia says ( not accurate but)
3000 met specials( say 500 signed off)
4500 PCSO ( dropped to 2500 say)
Plus police staff
=============
Think 2000 applicants max

There are, according to the Met Intranet, 150 specials that have passed their IPS. They were all out on Friday night, trying to tick boxes. Specials are in no way more experienced than a PCSO. All the ones except 2 that I know, are shockingly bad.

Yes Sir, sorry Sir, although it is on topic, Specials are part of this new recruitment, so it's very on topic.

I refrained from slagging them, as I know many don't like to hear it, I was merely stating a fact.

If you cannot tell the difference between fact and opinion, then you would be right not to consider apply as a PC - you will fail with an attitude like that.

Perhaps its because they don't do the job for as many hours a week as a PCSO does and they have to learn a lot more than a PCSO in terms of law etc. Remember that many specials have demanding careers beside being specials and its only natural to get a taste of the job before having to (in many cases) take a pay cut if they decide to become regulars.
I believe they have as much right to apply as PCSOs and as much chance of getting in.

Good luck to all of you who applied by the way :slww:

But remember many specials hold down a full time job. I knew a special who was an area manager for a very large company and was very well educated and could run rings Chief Insps. all day, but just loved coming out with officers to patrol the streets. It was his ambition to join the police but he went down a different route many years ago and ended up getting paid double a PCs wage. All PCs respected him and helped him gain satisfaction from turning out. I would not knock them as many are very intelligent people.

Surely applications should be open to all Met employees ie PCSOs, specials, office staff etc to try and motivate them to better themselves, if they want too.
