And thats the thing the forces need to save money as the amount the goverment is dishing out to them has been cut.

I'm sorry we are loosing long service officers officers but if they are going to cut staff I think is only fair they go. For one thing they have a Pension equal to £17K a year tax free plus a lump sum.

I hate to say it but I'm with TCB on this one.

its a shame to lose the experience, some I know are better than the newer ones, that said it goes the other way around.

If it was not a "gentleman's club" like it still is thanks to the Federation, it should be by merit, kick the crap ones out. There are loads. No matter the length in service.

But that's too easy.....

And People lets not turn every thread into a battle.

Also for you who do not know using CAPTIALS on a forum is considered as shouting... please don't shout! Quirky hey but true.

Whilst we may not all agree with TCB he is intitled to his opinion and we should at least respect that.

How long do we have to keep people on for then?

If you've done your 30 years, staying on is unfair if other staff are going to be made redundant because you've gone from Inspector to some civillian role after your 30. The job takes care of their own.

Jimmy, no-one is getting paid-off because some Cops are staying on past there 30 years.

When they are brought back on in a civillian role after their 30, and staff are being made redundant, then yes, they are!

Because this post is filled, they are unable to reallocate staff before making the choice of redundancy.

But if they are in a civilian role having been "brought back", they are out-with the Police Regs so I am not sure if what you are arguing.

I take it you have a problem with Officers who have retired at 30 years, then get a job in support staff. That is a totally different scenario and I see where you are coming from but in my Force they have recently cleared a few out, including one post which was clearly a "jobs for the boys" appointed only two months ago.
