• Reference No. PCSO-09-Jul-12
• Position PCSO
• Role PCSOs
• Department Neighbourhood Policing
• Rank -
• BTP Area London Areas,
• Salary £18,933.48
• Description The British Transport Police (BTP) is dedicated to tackling crime on Britain’s railways. Every day, we police the journeys of over six million passengers and 400,000 tonnes of freight over 10,000 miles of track.

For us, travelling is about more than just getting there. It’s about ensuring safety and security all the way. Right now, we are looking for motivated individuals of the highest calibre to help us protect anyone who travels by train.

Joining BTP as a Police Community Support Officer will give you an opportunity to be involved in a range of challenging and rewarding situations.

Here, you will experience true variety on a daily basis, taking a key role in resolving a range of challenging scenarios. While no two days will be the same, you can expect to encounter public disorder, and enforce railway byelaws and summary offences, on a regular basis. You will also take the lead in meeting and engaging with the unique transient community that BTP operates within.
sounds interesting! and here's a BTP thread dated 2007 but gives you an idea of what to expect

anybody interested? :slhi:

That wage would not include London Weighting or shift disturbance. I think I started on £23K + extras, so it's about £4K less than The Met.

But you are talking about a cops pay. Or are you telling me that PCSOs are starting on £27K in the Met?

Mind you, the house prices are pretty steep so its all relative...

Actually I was wrong. I have just found my first pay slip from 2009. My salary was £20369 + a Zone 2 allowance of £153 a month and a shift disturbance or £212.18 per month. My gross pay was £2,647.80 for the month, and I took home (after pension and savings as well as tax and NI) £1651.39. Central London PCSOs get another £1,800 a year than that for inner London allowance. I am currently, after three years on just over £28K.

Sorry, I might be a bit thick but £2,647.80 per month is the best part of £32k pa.... do you do a lot of OT then?

Actuallly it's me being thick. I was looking in the wrong column, let's start again.

Basic Pay = £1697.43
Zone 2 Allowance = £153.00
Disturbance Pay = £186.31

Total gross pay for the month was £2036.74, which works out to a starting salary of £24,440, which would have gone up now with a couple of pay rises. I'm currently on just over £28K.

I know county forces are quite a bit lower. I was once told that Kent Police Officers earn the same basic as a Met PCSO, don't know if that's true or not.

When I see the payslips of some of my PC colleagues it defies belief, they are spanking the overtime and earning a fortune. With less than 5's, last minute Section 18s and so on. Nice work if you can get it!!
