He does sound like a jobsworth, however he does have a point in relation to the CCTV. We are asked to collect CCTV all the time, and we all do it. But, legally, are we actually allowed to seize exhibits.....?
I don't believe we are.

I'll challenge that BB, we had a similar moan down my endz bruv!!

We are not seizing it, we are collecting it, there is a difference. If you go into a shop where an incident has taken place, and say, I am seizing that CCTV for evidence, then that is seizing it. If you go to the council CCTV room to collect some CCTV that has already been requested by an officer, then you are collecting it.

I really can't see the issue with doing some fetch and carry! what's the point in sending a police officer to collect CCTV when 9 times out of 10 a PCSO is just around the corner.. Makes no sence at all..

We are now getting to a point were the things PCSOs can do is being over shadowed by the huge PCSO can't or won't do list.

Can anyone explain to me as to why we cant Exhibit items and seize property , surely this is not stepping on the PC toes ? There is soooo much more we can do and I don't mean the arrest or cuffs debate ?

I agree!

Look at the news story last year when Essex PCSO's where removed from escorting kids across a road on the grounds that they don't have the " correct training "

So no collecting CCTV, no collecting property, no helping kids cross a road!!

Am I the only one who thinks this is madness

Who did you mean? As you seem to shorten everyone's screen name on this forum, I assumed BC was me!!!

Just like our bike training, our instructor said, we can't chase suspects in bike, but we can follow them! :slzip:
