LORRAINE Hudson tries to "think outside the box" when she deals with anti-social behaviour.

And because she goes above and beyond the scope of her job, the PCSO is now in the running for an Evening Gazette Community Champions award.

While on duty Lorraine, a PCSO for Guisborough, works to make sure youngsters on her patch have things to keep them occupied.

But she also regularly gives up her free time as well.

The 39-year-old from East Cleveland said: “I try and think outside the box to find things for them to do.

“Most kids get into trouble because they’re bored not because they’re bad so I try and get them involved in stuff.”

Since 2010 Lorraine has helped organise events during the summer holidays to keep kids entertained.

This year Lorraine and a colleague put on an Olympic-themed event for Guisborough, Lingdale and Boosbeck youths, with activities such as water polo, horse riding and street dancing.

And she has also got youngsters from a local youth centre to make mosaics for planters outside shops on Howlbeck Road, so they take “ownership” of their local community.

Despite working tirelessly to support Guisborough youngsters, Lorraine modestly says she doesn’t think she’s doing anything special.

Lorraine, who has been a PCSO for 10 years, said: “At the end of the day I’m just doing my job, which I love.

“It’s nice to know that people are appreciative though.”
