Norfolk road crashes leave five dead in 48 hours

A police community support officer is the fifth person to have died on Norfolk's road in three car accidents in less than 48 hours, said police.

Sandra Greenacre, 51, a married mother of four, died in a crash on the A149 at Sandringham about 06:40 GMT while on her way to work in Hunstanton.

On Sunday, a man and a woman died following a collision on the A140 at Hevingham about 20:25 GMT.

And on Saturday, two women were killed in a crash on the A47 at Hockering.

The mother and daughter, aged 48 and 19, were travelling in a Ford Ka which was in collision with a Mercedes.

'Devastating loss'
Mrs Greenacre, known as Sandi, worked in the Hunstanton, Burnham Market and The Woottons areas.

Chief Constable Phil Gormley said: "We were saddened and shocked to learn of the death of our colleague.

"A number of families, friends and colleagues are today dealing with the devastating loss of a loved one from a weekend which has seen a shocking level of tragedy on Norfolk's roads.

"We extend our sympathy to them all at this time."

Mrs Greenacre's Peugeot 107 was in collision with a Peugeot 206 travelling in the opposite direction.

Thoughts to family, friends and colleagues.

...not to mention that the husband died from a heart attack the day after. Probably from shock, so that makes it 6. There is such a lack of motorways and safe roads here in Norfolk..

Sandi was lovely - I was only have a cuppa with her and her husband two days before this happened. It's affected us all and I think makes us all aware of our own mortality.

Sandra Greenacre: Norfolk PCSO a modern 'Marilyn Monroe'
Image
Tributes have been paid to the police community support officer (PCSO) who died in a crash in Norfolk.

Sandra Greenacre, 51, a married mother of four, has been described by her family as the "epitome of glamour" whose presence "captivated" others.

She died in a crash on the A149 at Sandringham about 06:40 GMT on Monday while on her way to work in Hunstanton.

Mrs Greenacre, known as Sandi, joined Norfolk Police in 2007. She was also a stepmother of two.

Deeply missed
A statement from her family said: "She knew how to entertain a crowd with her larger-than-life personality and quick-witted sense of humour and her presence often captivated all those around her.

"It would be true to say she was most definitely the life and soul of any party and loved nothing more than getting dolled up for a night out... there was certainly never a dull moment if you were lucky enough to be around her.

"Her friends and family will miss her deeply."

Hundreds at funeral service for PCSO killed in crash

More than 350 people, including a large contingent of police and police community support officers, attended the funeral service for PCSO Sandi Greenacre at St Faith’s Church in Gaywood this (Wednesday) afternoon.

Police motorcycles formed an escort for the hearse on her last journey.

And 56 of her fellow officers formed a guard-of-honour along the path to the main door as her coffin, draped in the Norfolk police force flag and with her cap and a single red rose on top, was borne into and taken out of the Gayton Road church.

The 51-year-old mother-of-four and stepmother to two, well-known for her work in the Hunstanton area, Burnham Market and The Woottons, was killed in a car crash on the A149 at Sandringham on March 11 as she was on her way to work at Hunstanton Police Station.

Glowing tributes were paid to Mrs Greenacre, who lived in Dairy Way, Gaywood, by Canon Beryl Wood, team rector at St Faith’s, and her work colleague Sgt Karen Faulkner during the service.
