what do you get for working a Bank Holiday?

Post by falkor » Fri Jun 26, 2015 6:32 pm

PCs get DOUBLE PAY, quaintly known as DOUBLE BUBBLE

but what do PCSOs get?

In Surrey Police they will not receieve Double Bubble, they get the hours they worked as plain overtime - so overtime hours x 1 PLUS 2 RDILs !!

what do you get??

We don't work Bank Holidays as a rule so it would only be for overtime at double rate.
I have seen the truth and it makes no sense.

We don't get to work bank holidays. However they tried to make us work New Years Day (all the cops had picked it as their bank holiday) as it would be cheaper. Collectively we told them to naff off, if we aren't good enough to work it usually don't come running to us to fix your mistake.

Surely there was a minimum staffing level for the cops?

We recently started working on a BH. The only day that is protected in Xmas Day but we work the rest.

We get double pay plus a BHIL but can elect to have 3 days pay.

We don't have minimum staffing levels and it is up to local Commanders to decide if they want us to work. This is fine if it is applied in all areas of the county but this is not happening yet.

Nope. Virtually every single cop in the force picked New years eve and new years day as their bank holiday. The force wanted us to do it because it was cheaper, we all told them to go swivel. If it's too expensive to let us do bank holidays usually, they can't just turn around and make us do it when it suits them.

One of the Winsor recommendations that has been widely implemented is that police officers select the days that are considered to be bank holidays for the purposes of pay and conditions.
I believe the idea was that people would select more convienient days throughout the year instead of the usual Mondays. What actually happened is every cop I know of (and probably throughout the country) has selected most of Christmas and New Years.

Normally it wouldn't be a problem, bank holiday Mondays are normally quiet and run on minimal staff (hence no PCSOs or civvy staff). New Years minimum staffing is a lot lot higher as you know, rest days cancelled, shifts changed etc.
So the wage bill has gone up massively.

Another stupid idea from a man that hasn't got a clue that has ended up costing hundreds of thousands of pounds in extra wages in our force alone. In an effort to combat it, the force tried to make us work instead because we are cheaper (cops get double bubble and a day off, we get time and a half on an already lower wage). We told them to go forth and multiply, everyone refused point blank.

We do not work bank holidays and if we do it would be just time on our card. I would love to earn overtime money.

Nope, we don't work bank holidays at all.... which is just fine by me. There are a few who need the cash that may offer to work certain days if the offer is there (special events etc), but the vast majority don't get asked and are happy not to work them. I value my time off very much and would not work them even if offered.
