Re: Its what we've all been waiting for - Standard Powers!
Standard powers sounds wonderful but as we all know, CSOs are anything but standard. When will the powers be given that give all CSOs across the country the same remit. It causes such confusion to the public - and us! It's also perception. A visitor from another town (where certain powers exist) may think we're not doing our job properly (without realising we don't have the required powers). Imagine the 43 Police forces having varying powers for their officers!

The Police are a FARCE...
Re: Its what we've all been waiting for - Standard Powers!
No need for that surely....

H. I think he should speak for himself but I have noticed almost an anti-Police slant to some of his recent posts.
Re: Its what we've all been waiting for - Standard Powers!
As if the introduction of a watered down set of 20 standard PCSO powers was not bad enough in it's self ( due to ACPO and the Fed's input ) . Then for the CC to find a way of not giving the standard powers to his 750 PCSO employed by him is a Farce... Thanks for calling me a farce THFC but I am the one patrolling the streets without adequate protection ( No stab vest ) and not even the standard powers due to my Police Farce. I thought seems this thread is regarding standards powers that this is a farce...
Re: Its what we've all been waiting for - Standard Powers!
Fair comment JCH, I know how frustrating the role can be but it must be much worse for someone in your position.
I take it that there doesn't appear to be any progression for yourselves?

With great power, comes great Responsibility.
Now CSO have powers, they are liable like Police Constables are under P.A.C.E.
I just hope it doesn't lead to loads of court cases and CSO's losing their job for silly reasons.
Like in Osman v DPP (Just because the Officer forgot to identify his name,he got assaulted)
and the Judge found the man NOT GUILTY.
Would PCSO have to write out a 50/90 Form aswel, that is just wasting valuable community time.

It's been almost a year since the standard powers have come in and still the CC has not designated them to us. I thought that was the whole point of the new legislation, to stop it being his decision

It's all crazy. I've just been told that CSOs can't seize alcohol in a DPPO - yet they can still seize under young persons act '97. I can't see why...and it can't be anything to do with adults v kids as Young persons act allows for you to seize from adults if you think they are supplying kids.

Am I confusing these standard powers with the new powers issued to us in Dec 2007?Jimmy_bobby wrote:It's been almost a year since the standard powers have come in and still the CC has not designated them to us. I thought that was the whole point of the new legislation, to stop it being his decision
