Gaff of the week/month/year?

Post by typecastboy » Tue Dec 22, 2009 11:14 am

Just left the nick yesterday along with elcapitan. We got about 500 yards up the High Street when a MOP stopped us and pointed behind saying "Is that a fire". There was thick grey smoke billowing out of the station. We both turned and started running back down the high street. I called up on Met radio saying "There is a lot of grey smoke billowing from the BR station, 30 seconds away, stand by for update" or words to that effect. The answer came "we have our cameras on it, it's a steam train"! It turned out it was the Orient Express. How silly did I feel.

What made it worse was elcapitan carried on running even after hearing that, he wanted to see the train!

You'd have looked sillier if you told the MOP "don't worry, it's probably nothing" and then the station burnt down. Better to check and look daft, than not check and lose your job ;)

Definately glad I checked. At least I could laugh at myself as well.

What was even more amusing was watching elcapitan, who is extremely tall, trying to see over the wall of the station to see the train.
