IMHO PCSO uniform and equipment should undergo regular review. I've just finished writing a report for our Uniform Advisory Group after consulting with colleagues about what's good and what's bad with our uniforms.

Woops! Sorry! It was sent to all Pcso’s in A&S Police.

PS: I have deliberately not posted what was in it as i think it would be frowned upon.

*EDIT* Basically said about not having the powers of arrest obviously and that we would be invited to a web chat which has now happened. It was posted online in the public domain so I assume its ok to post here!

frowned upon ?
I hear that D&C are taken away the obstruction power from PCSO's. Has anybody else heard this ?

D&C have indeed removed all non endorsable & endorsable ticketing from PCSO's, D&C are introducing OSCO ticketing from 31st March 2013, and only SWORN Officers & Specials and few Investigator's will be allowed to issue the new FPN's, it would appear D&C don't trust their PCSO's doing grown up stuff !!!!
another backward step for PCSO's, the decision is probably to do with Job Evaluation which is happening now, i suppose they will save money if they show we don't perform certain task's !!
I cannot for the life of me, see why PCSO's cannot deal with a wide range of Ticketing Power's.
AFTER ALL, PCSO's ARE THE ONLY OFFICER's OUT WALKING AROUND WITNESSING A WIDE RANGE OF OFFENCES.

I find it bizarre, that despite that Speeding is the number 1 issue our communities complain about, me as a PCSO cannot deal with it, I cannot even stop a moving vehicle to offer advice ie; speeding, mobile phones, seatbelts etc...

PCSO's should be able to deal with these Offences, as SWORN Officers don't want to deal with them anymore, with ever decreasing Officers it is difficult to enforce most Vehicle type offences nowaday's.

Why not let PCSO's do what our Communities want from us, dealing with Ignorant drivers ??

I cant agree more. I wonder if they might place us with alternative powers, what that will be i do not know. I do agree with you, it is a joke and a backward step I just feel that its a mockery of our role, obstruction is a massive problem in communities, again we then have to say "sorry we don't have the power to resolve your community issue but i know someone who can". I really don't understand the logic behind this.
